About Dhama
Dhama is a small town of the state Orissa situated near the bank of river Mahanadi at a distance of 25km from the city of Sambalpur. Dhama a holy place is famous for Huma Lord Shiva temple. The temple is an architectural wonder because it is inclined at an angle of 45 degree to the ground and so is often compared with the leaning tower of Pisa. The history of the temple is very interesting and the story that has passed on from one generation to the next is that once upon a time a cow used to cross the river mahanadi to shower the shiva linga on the opposite bank of the river with its milk. Once the cow herd in order to unravel the mystery behind the journey jumped along with the cow and discovered the divine shiva linga. The temple is believed to be constructed by the Deva Silpi Viswakarma in a single day. Another site of tourist interest is the Mahanadi river bank, a spot for fish feeding, one can enjoy big colourful fishes eating out of your hand. People go for fish feeding and boating, usually in summer and winter. Sambalpur is known for Sambalpuri handloom saree and they are famous all over the world. Samalaswari temple in the heart of the city attracts devotees from all over the state. Worlds largest mud dam, the Hirakud dam is 15km away from Sambalpur.
